Scholarships in Ireland for Nepalese Students
Most Nepali students in Ireland get help through university scholarships: partial tuition reductions, usually a few thousand euro, for strong grades or early fee payment. A small number win the Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship, which has historically covered a year’s tuition plus a living stipend. Full scholarships are rare, so plan your budget without them and treat any award as a bonus.

Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES)
The GOI-IES is run by the Higher Education Authority for high-achieving non-EU students starting a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD in Ireland. It has historically offered a one-year stipend of around €10,000 plus a full tuition fee waiver for that year, and only around 60 awards are made each year across all countries.
You usually apply after getting an offer, or at the same time, through the HEA’s online form in the winter before a September start. The application asks for academic results, a personal statement and references, and it rewards a clear link between your course and your future plans. Check the current call on the HEA website, as dates and terms change each year.
University scholarships and fee reductions
Almost every Irish university and technological university offers scholarships to non-EU students. Most are partial: a fixed amount or a percentage off the first year’s tuition, based on your academic results. Some are automatic once you get an offer; others need a short separate application or essay.
- Merit scholarships based on your +2 or bachelor’s results, often a few thousand euro off tuition.
- Early-payment or early-acceptance discounts for paying the deposit or full fee by a set date.
- Subject-specific awards, for example for STEM, business or data courses.
- Country or region awards for students from South Asia at some universities.
- Sports, leadership or community awards at a few institutions.
What makes a strong scholarship application
- Grades above the course minimum. For a master’s, a first-class or high second-class result makes the biggest difference.
- A personal statement that is specific: why this course, why this university, and what you will do with it.
- Applying early. Many university awards are limited and handed out as offers are made.
- Good IELTS or PTE scores, which also show you are ready for the course.
- Evidence of work experience, research, projects or volunteering that fits your course.
Plan your budget without a scholarship
Even with a scholarship, the Irish visa requires proof that you can pay the rest of your tuition and at least €10,000 per year for living costs. Scholarships rarely cover living expenses, and university awards are usually for the first year only. Build your plan with family funds, savings or an education loan from a Nepali bank first, then treat any award as a reduction in what you need.
