Why Nepalese graduates choose a master’s in Ireland

Ireland is an English-speaking EU country where many global technology, pharmaceutical and finance companies run their European operations. For a Nepali graduate that means a one-year, internationally recognised degree followed by a realistic chance to gain work experience in Europe.

Because the course is short, the total cost is often lower than a two-year master’s elsewhere. The trade-off is intensity: modules, assessments and the dissertation are packed into about twelve months, so you need to arrive ready to study from week one.

Entry requirements

Irish universities usually ask for a bachelor’s degree equivalent to an Irish Level 8 honours degree with at least a second-class (2.2) result. For Nepali degrees this is often interpreted as roughly 55–60% or a CGPA of about 2.8–3.0 out of 4, but each university sets its own conversion, and competitive courses ask for more. Three-year degrees may be accepted for some programmes and not others.

• IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0 is typical; PTE Academic and TOEFL iBT are also widely accepted.
• Statement of Purpose explaining your course choice and career plan.

• Work experience helps for MBA and some management courses, and is useful to explain any study gap.

Intakes and application timeline

September is the main intake and has the widest choice of courses. A smaller number of programmes start in January or February. Aim to apply 8–10 months before the intake: popular courses fill early, and you need time for the offer, fee deposit, funds documentation and the Irish visa decision, which is processed for Nepal through the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi.

After your master’s: Stamp 1G and Critical Skills

Under the Third Level Graduate Programme, graduates of a Level 9 master’s can currently get Stamp 1G permission to stay for up to 24 months and work full time while looking for a job. Graduates of a Level 8 honours bachelor’s currently get up to 12 months.

If you secure a graduate-level job on Ireland’s Critical Skills Occupations List that meets the minimum salary threshold, your employer can support a Critical Skills Employment Permit. That route can lead to longer-term residence.
