Ireland: best value for a one-year master’s
Ireland has become one of the most popular choices for Nepali master’s students, and for good reason:
- A one-year Level 9 master’s means less time out of work and lower total living costs.
- Graduates of a Level 9 master’s can currently stay up to 24 months on Stamp 1G to work full time and look for a graduate job. Level 8 bachelor’s graduates get up to 12 months.
- Dublin hosts the European headquarters of many global tech, pharma and finance companies.
- Ireland is an English-speaking EU country, and a job on the Critical Skills Occupations List can lead to longer-term residence.
Plan for: high rent, especially in Dublin, and proof of at least €10,000 per year for living costs on top of tuition. Read Stamp 1G stay back explained and studying IT in Ireland.
United Kingdom: widest choice of universities
The UK offers hundreds of universities, many intakes and one-year master’s degrees. The big change for 2027 is that the Graduate Route falls from two years to 18 months for applications made from 1 January 2027 (PhD graduates still get three years). Most master’s students on taught courses also can no longer bring dependants.

Australia: strong work rights, higher cost
Australia has excellent universities and a large Nepali community, and students can work up to 48 hours per fortnight during study. Courses are longer and more expensive, the Genuine Student requirement is strict, and visa rules have tightened in recent years. It suits students with a strong financial base and a clear career plan. See study in Australia from Nepal.
Canada: possible, but check caps first
Canada still attracts many students, but study permit caps, provincial attestation letters and changes to post-graduation work permit eligibility have made it less predictable. If Canada is your goal, check that your course is eligible for a PGWP before you apply. See study in Canada from Nepal.
USA: top universities and funding for strong profiles
The USA is ideal for students with strong grades and test scores who can win assistantships or scholarships. Master’s degrees usually take two years, and the F-1 visa includes an interview. STEM graduates can get longer OPT work periods. See master’s in the USA from Nepal.
India: close, affordable and no visa
India needs no visa for Nepali students, costs far less and is popular for MBBS, engineering and IT. Check that your college and course are recognised in Nepal, especially for medicine. See MBBS in India for Nepali students.
How to decide: five questions to ask yourself
- What is my total budget, including living costs, not just tuition?
- How long can I afford to study before I start earning: one year or two?
- What do I want after graduation: return to Nepal, work abroad for a few years, or settle long term?
- Does my academic history fit the course and country I am choosing?
- Can I document my funds clearly with bank, loan and sponsor papers?
For many Nepali graduates who want an affordable one-year master’s with a real chance to work afterwards, Ireland is a strong first choice. For students who need specific universities or courses, the UK, Australia or the USA may suit better.
Frequently asked questions
Which country is cheapest to study abroad from Nepal?
India is the cheapest overall. Among English-speaking countries, Ireland and the UK are often cheaper in total for a master’s because the course lasts one year. Germany has low or no tuition at public universities, but you need a blocked account and often some German.
Which country gives the longest stay back after a master’s?
Ireland currently gives up to 24 months after a Level 9 master’s. The UK gives 18 months for Graduate Route applications from January 2027. Canada, Australia and the USA depend on the course and visa category.
Is Ireland good for Nepali students?
Yes, especially for one-year master’s degrees in computing, data, business and pharmaceutical science. Plan carefully for accommodation and show clear, well-documented funds for the visa.
Can I apply to more than one country?
Yes. Many of our students apply to Ireland and the UK together and decide once offers arrive. Keep your story consistent across both applications.
